— You can change privacy settings on individual items to control who has access. You might want to narrow embarrassing photos to your closest friends or delete some posts completely, or at least hide them so only you can see them.

— You can change the date on a post. For example, if you took a few months to post photos from a trip to Portugal, you can move them to appear with other posts from the time you took that trip. You can also add where you were, retroactively using a location feature that Facebook hadn't offered until recently.

— For major events in your life, you can click on a star to feature them more prominently. You can hide the posts you'd rather not showcase.

— Besides your traditional profile photo — your headshot — you can add what Facebook calls a cover photo. It's the image that will splash across the top and can be a dog, a hobby or anything else that reflects who you are. Keep in mind the dimensions are more like a movie screen than a traditional photo, so a close-up portrait of your face won't work well, but one of you lying horizontally will. But you don't even have to be in it.

— You can add things before you joined Facebook, back to when you were born. Life events can include when you broke your arm and whom you were with then, or when you spoke your first word or got a tattoo. You can add photos from childhood or high school as well.

— If you feel overwhelmed with so many posts to go through, start with your older ones. Those are the ones you'd need to be most careful about because you had reason to believe only a few friends would see them.

— Click on Activity Log to see all of your posts at a glance and make changes to them one by one. Open Facebook in a new browser tab first, though. That way, you can have one tab for the log and the other for the main Timeline.

Message appearing on Facebook claims that users can receive a free Shell Gas Card worth $100 by clicking a link in the post.

Analysis
The message is not an official Shell promotion. The message is a typical survey scam. Users who fall for the ruse and follow the link will first be tricked into spamming the same fake promotion to their friends by "liking" and "sharing" the bogus Shell promotions page. Next, they will be told they must complete a survey or offer before receiving their free gas card. Some of the "survey" pages ask users to provide personal information including name, address and contact details, ostensibly to allow them to go in the draw for a prize. Others invite them to download dubious toolbars, games or software. Still others will claim that users must provide their mobile phone number - thereby subscribing to absurdly expensive text messaging services - in order to get the results of a survey or go in the running for a prize.

No matter how many offers or surveys they complete, or what services they subscribe to, victims will never receive their promised gas cards.

The scammers who create these bogus promotions will earn commissions via suspect affiliate marketing schemes each and every time a victim completes an offer or participates in a survey. Victims may also be faced with large phone bills for unwanted mobile phone services and, because they have provided name and contact details, they may be inundated with unwanted promotional emails, phone calls and junk mail.

Shell Gas has no involvement with this bogus promotion. If one of these spam messages appears on your Facebook wall, delete it and do not click on any links that it contains.

Look at the URL. Does it even look real to you? Do you think Shell, Starbucks, Amazon and other companies will offer free gift cards on websites that are not their official sites? And if you actually paid money to buy something to get that free gift card, you're a complete sucker. HAHAHA. Cancel all your credit cards now, you're a danger to yourself.

A bit idealistic, but generally good rules to live by, if you have a good balance of rationality and spontaneity in you. While we must always be practical and realistic, the truth is, sometimes, we all need to live a little.
